Who is this course for?
Aimed at Healthcare Assistants, new Phlebotomists and Practice Nurses new to Venepuncture.
What will I learn?
Discover the essential theory and anatomy of blood taking and gain hands-on experience with phlebotomy techniques. Our comprehensive training in clinical skills combines both theoretical knowledge and simulated practice, ensuring you are well-prepared for real-world applications.

Pre-course requirements
Before attending the course you must have read and be familiar with the Standard Infection Control Precautions (SICPS) and the RCN Guidance for the Prevention and Management of sharps injuries in health and social care settings.
Assessment
After completing the training, you will need to undergo supervised practice in a clinical setting and complete the required competencies before receiving your certificate. You will require a competent registered (nurse) practitioner within your workplace to confirm your practical competency before you can practice independently.
Is there any funding available?
Eligible individuals employed in General Practice within Humber and North Yorkshire may access NHSE funding opportunities, available via the Primary Care Workforce and Training Hub.

If you are eligible for a funded place, please select the relevant ‘Funded' option at the checkout, and you will not be charged. As places on each date are limited, each eligible person may book with funding on only one date per course – if you wish to swap dates, please cancel your initial booking before re-booking another date. To avoid funding waste, multiple bookings for the same individual, non-attendance without cancellation, or short notice cancellation (except in exceptional circumstances) will not be funded. Eligibility will be checked for all funded bookings, if it is determined that you have incorrectly claimed eligibility for funding, an invoice for the full course fee will be issued.
This course can be available utilising NHSE CPD funding for eligible individuals (Nurses, NAs and Allied Health Professionals). To be eligible, the person attending must be:
· A Nurse, Nursing Associate, or Allied Health Professional (e.g. Paramedic/Physiotherapist – full AHP list detailed here)
· Employed by a General Practice/ PCN within Humber and North Yorkshire
· Have not chosen to claim an individual CPD funding allowance for 2025/26 instead of accessing funded training
· Have not already exceeded the fair-share limit of two CPD funded courses with Academicare between Sept. 2025 - Sept. 2026 (unless on the New-to-Practice Nursing Foundation Programme)

This course can be available utilising NHSE Local Enhanced Services (LES) funding. Eligibility is for staff employed by a General Practice/ PCN within Humber and North Yorkshire, that is signed up to the (Phlebotomy/ECG/Wound Care <delete as appropriate>) LES Specification.

This course can be available utilising NHSE HCA Apprenticeship Bolt-on Funding. Eligibility is for HCAs undertaking an apprenticeship and employed within general practice across Humber and North Yorkshire.

Booking more than one place

From there, you can add the names and email addresses of those attending the course. Kindly ensure this is completed before the course begins so attendees receive all the necessary information in advance.

You can make a booking on behalf of someone else. Once you receive the booking confirmation email, simply follow the link provided to access the booking. From there, you’ll be able to enter the attendee’s name and email address. Please ensure this is completed before the course begins so they receive all the necessary information in good time.
Paying for your course
You can pay by invoice, credit card, or debit card. If you're choosing to pay by invoice and you're not the person responsible for processing payments, you can simply forward the invoice email to your finance department for payment.
