Description

ILM Recognised Leadership & Management Development Programme

Delivered through self-directed learning with access to an interactive forum, our Leadership and Management Development Programme is designed to equip new, aspiring, and existing leaders in general practice with the knowledge, skills, and theoretical foundations they need to thrive in their current or future roles.

Who should take our course?

  • Staff who are in a role that carries responsibility for other staff or important resources

  • Newly appointed supervisors, team leaders or managers

  • Existing managers, supervisors or team leaders who require training or refresher training

  • Staff who have the potential to develop and move into managerial or leadership roles in the future

  • Suitable for both administrative and clinical leadership roles

How long is the course?

The course spans 12 months in total, divided into four module blocks, each carefully curated to build your knowledge and skills progressively. You’ll have three months to complete each block, giving you plenty of time to explore the content, reflect on your learning, and complete the activities. A written assignment will be due at the end.

The time commitment is approximately 1 day per month on average, which can be broken down however suits you.

When and how can I access it?

We are currently accepting expressions of interest to set a new cohort start for Autumn/Winter 2026/27.

As the core content is self-directed, you can arrange your time to work on each module block however suits you best within the 12 months duration of the course, spaced as illustrated below. The final deadline for completion and assignment submission will be 12 months from your start date.

  • Module Block 1 - Months 1-3

  • Module Block 2 - Months 4-6

  • Module Block 3 - Months 7-9

  • Module Block 4 - Months 10-12

  • Assignment due 12 months after start date.

Once enrolled and your cohort begins, the core of your learning will take place on our interactive online platform. Here, you’ll explore a series of theory-based modules that are rich with engaging content, practical activities, podcasts, and quizzes designed to help you absorb and apply what you learn. Whatever time of day you prefer to study, the platform is available 24/7—so you can learn when it suits you best.

Throughout you will have access to a live virtual forum. This provides a valuable opportunity to connect with your tutors and fellow learners, ask questions, discuss key topics, and deepen your understanding.

What will I learn?

Our course is split up in to 4 blocks which are as follows:

Block 01: Leadership & Management

Block 02: HR, Quality & Assurance

Block 03: Organisational, Facilities & Finance Management

Block 04: Digital, Technology, Marketing, Communications & Future Planning

Each of the four module blocks include a range of topics to work through flexibly over the allocated three months per block. Each module includes activities and knowledge checks to support you.

Is the course funded?
